About Us
Yawoorroong Miriuwung Gajerrong Yirrgeb Noong Dawang Aboriginal Corporation (MG Corporation) was established in 2006 to receive and manage the benefits transferred under the OFA to the MG People, who are recognised under Australian law as holding Native Title over large areas in the North of Western Australia’s east Kimberley region.
In June 2025 an Indigenous Land Use Agreement between MG Corp and the State of Western Australia was registered for the creation, joint management and joint vesting of new conservation estates between DBCA and MG Corp on MG Country.
As part of the benefits provided to MG Corp. funding was made available to MG Corp for the employment of a MG Joint Management Project Officer. Funding has been made available for 10 years.
This is a new position and recognises MG Corp’s aspiration to support Native Title Holders manage lands on their country.

The Position
The primary objective of the Joint Management Project Officer is to assist MG Corp. meet its joint management obligations in respect of the joint management of the new Conservation estate and Marine Park.
The Joint Management Project Officer will also assist in building MG capacity to manage its own Ranger program on Reserve 31165.
Key Responsibilities
- Have demonstrated experience in working with Indigenous Communities with an emphasis on engagement, cultural competency and land management activities.
- Provide logistical and other support for MG Joint Management Members to attend Joint management Meetings and R31165 management meetings.
- Provide administrative support for JMB members to ensure they are prepared for JMB meetings and have sufficient information for them to give free prior and informed consent before any joint management decisions are made.
- Arrange and process payments for JMB members attending meetings and other payments as required.
- Liaise with DBCA to ensure smooth communication between DBCA and MG Corp.
- Oversee and ensure any decisions relating to the management of the new Conservation areas and the North Kimberley Marine Park (MG’s portion) are in the line with the Joint Management Agreement.
- In conjunction with the Garralyel provide advice to DBCA on the selection of Rangers and Cultural safety for MG Rangers employed by DBCA.
- Prepare reports on activities undertaken by the Joint Management Project Officer to the Manager of Strategic Government Relations, Lands and Heritage.
- Assist and contribute to the development of policies and procedures of the Joint Management Body.
- Contribute to the development of the Joint Management Plan for the new conservation areas and updates for existing reserves.
- Where surplus funds for Joint management occurs in any one year the Joint Management Project Officer will at the direction of Management explore fee for service opportunities for implementing the approved estate conservation estate management plan, develop the capacity of MG Corp, MG Native Title Holders in relation to activities on the conservation estate and /or cross cultural training including fee for service , relevant to the conservation estate.
- Provide support to MG rangers employed by DBCA under the ILUA.
- Contribute to a culturally safe working environment through implementation of relevant policies and procedures for DBCA Rangers, JMB Members and Cultural Leaders.
- Using experience and knowledge to support land management and cultural heritage protection on the new conservation estate under the direction of the Manager Strategic Government Relations, Land and Heritage.
- Attend Joint Management Meetings as an Observer.
Selection Criteria
Essential
- High level of Cultural knowledge and competency or Qualifications in Land Management or similar or relevant similar experience.
- Demonstrable ability to effectively communicate and cooperate with Traditional Owners.
- Demonstrated cultural experience and confidence in working with Aboriginal communities.
- Ability to work within a team and with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work positively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to comply with Health, Safety and Environment requirements.
- Ability to manage logistics for remote fieldwork and meeting attendance as required.
- Current police clearance and valid driver’s license; off-road experience and recovery skills. Maintaining a licence is a condition of ongoing employment in this role.
- Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of Indigenous social and cultural challenges and a willingness to commit to community empowerment, training and development.
- Willingness to move/live in Kununurra, Western Australia.
Desirable
- Experience using computers and basic administration and reporting skills
- Project management skills.
Location and Remuneration
Kununurra based role offering a generous salary package. Base salary, superannuation, salary packaging and allowances. The base salary will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
