Strategic Government Relations, Land and Heritage Manager

MG Corporation is searching for a Strategic Government Relations, Land and Heritage Manager (SGRLHM) to build capacity of MG Corporation in Land and Heritage Management.

This a full-time role based in Kununurra with regular travel to Perth and WA regions.

The Position

The Strategic Government Relations, Land and Heritage Manager (SGRLHM) will manage the NATIVE TITLE CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAM Agreement to build capacity of MG Corporation in Land and Heritage Management. This project will enable MG Corporation to engage with third parties including but not limited to proponents and other relevant stakeholders, Government and statutory processes in relation to the operations of the business.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Lead, build and maintain positive strategic working relationships with all levels of State Government including high level negotiations.
  • Lead funding negotiations to secure new programs and enhance existing programs.
  • Employing and managing staff as Heritage Officers to perform tasks including coordinating, participating and assisting in Heritage surveys, providing Heritage advice, engaging with Aboriginal consultants, knowledge holders and leaders and engaging expert heritage service providers.
  • Employing and managing staff to provide administration support.
  • Training and upskilling of existing staff in areas of record keeping, negotiation and agreement making, legislative compliance and administrative functions;
  • Develop information technology capabilities such as heritage record databases, ArcGIS or other relevant systems;
  • Engaging dedicated resources to manage Aboriginal Heritage matters;
  • Developing frameworks and guides related to the identification, protection and management of Aboriginal Heritage and the interaction with third parties.
